Nuclear Powers Maryland Welcomes Labor Groups into Coalition
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 22, 2021 – Nuclear Powers Maryland (NPMD) announced today that the Baltimore-D.C. Building Trades has joined the coalition, along with its 23 affiliated local construction unions. The Building Trades is the affiliate organization for all the construction unions in Maryland, including the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA), the United Association (UA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). The Baltimore-DC Building Trades represents more than 25,000 skilled construction workers and their families.

NPMD on “State of the Air” Report: Nuclear Power Needed to Improve Air Quality in Maryland

Last week, the American Lung Association released its annual “State of the Air” report. While there have been some gains in improving our country’s air quality since 2020, over 40% of Americans — more than 135 million people — live in communities with unhealthy levels of ozone or particle pollution. Unfortunately, this includes many Marylanders. -

Dear Governor Hogan, Speaker Jones, and President Ferguson,
The State of Maryland has emerged as one of the country’s climate and clean energy leaders.
We, the people of Maryland, know that climate change is an urgent threat to cities and communities across our state, and our leaders should be commended for their efforts to accelerate the necessary transition to a clean energy future. The Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) is an important example of Maryland’s climate leadership, setting out bold targets to achieve 50 percent renewable energy by 2030 and 100 percent clean power by 2040.
